An exciting, informative day for all roles and at all levels, learning the Heart of Agile from one of the creators of the Agile movement.
Set your organization’s expectations for agile adoption, create a shared experience for everyone to refer back to, ask difficult questions of one of the founders of the agile movement.
Level:
This workshop is for all roles, at all levels in the business, and all levels of experience with agile.
Who should attend:
This is a great workout day for an entire organization, from execs to receptionists, business to technical people, novices to experts (yes, even the experts will learn!). use it to level-set vocabulary and expectations for agile, to create a shared experience to refer back to, and create a new small improvement initiatives within the organization. General comment heard during this workshop is, “I wish my boss where here!”
Content of the day:
Course description:
This day is design as a 4-part workshop making sure very job position from Execs to Testers understand what is and what isn’t agile, and what the most trending themes are today. The value of this one-day workshop is to unify vocabulary, to make sure that everyone hears and heard the same story. Having the executives present alleviates the oft-heard complaint, “I wish my boss were here!”
Lecture: The opening lectures introduces key concepts and ideas needed to make use of modern agile development:
Communication exercise: In this 90-minute activity, the room is broken into teams of 5-7 people, each with specifiers and artists. The specifiers are given a drawing to have the artist produce, but they can only use simple-text messages to communicate. The teams go through this activity three times to learn how to reflect and improve during a project, how to spot impediments to communication and collaboration. This is a high-energy, highly enlightening activity.
Carpaccio (Programming) Exercise: in this 120-minutes activity, people work in pairs on a spreadsheet. The purpose of the exercise is to show how to slice business requests thinly enough to fit into any size of iteration or sprint. This is an intense exercise that shows business-side development-side people, both, how to work in the fine-grained style needed for modern agile development.
Facilitation discussion: In this final activity, discussion groups are formed, to discuss what parts of the agile concepts learned during the day will be easy to adopt, and which will be difficult. This section of the day serves so that every person can discuss how to take the day’s learning home.

What’s surprising about this research is the impact of our mindset on creativity and innovation, estimation, and collaboration in and out of the workplace. Linda will share what we know so far about this mindset and offer some practical suggestions to help all of us become even more agile.

Teams using Scrum sometimes struggle with operational or emergent work blowing up their sprint plans. As DevOps delivery is increasingly used by organizations the need of Scrum teams to accommodate operational work also increases. After all, it does not matter how interesting that new feature is if production is down. By combining the disciplines of Scrum and Kanban teams can find that happy balance of planned work and emergent work while still maintaining discipline and continuous improvement.
John Gillespie focuses on helping organizations better understand how to measure success in terms of value and outcomes instead of output and progress by focusing on choosing value-based metrics and using OKRs to align organizations towards value delivery.
He is a technology and transformation executive with extensive experience in data centers, solutions architecture, and continuous delivery. This includes eCommerce development and product management in financial institutions. For the past 10 years, he has guided organizations in the adoption of Lean/Agile practices, and he has been integral in leading enterprise-wide transformations.
He earned an MBA in finance and leadership from NYU Stern School of Business, plus MS in Computer Science and a BS in Economics.

Professional Agile Leadership™ – Evidence-Based Management™ (PAL-EBM) assessment is available to anyone who wishes to validate that they are a leader with an advanced level of understanding about how an empirical approach helps organizations to continuously improve.
This includes the knowledge needed to enable agility by identifying goals and related achievement measures, using hypotheses to identify improvement opportunities, performing experiments to test these hypotheses, and using the resulting learning to improve. They have demonstrated the knowledge to apply these concepts to Improvement targets such as customer outcomes, organizational capabilities, and business results.
The assessment is in place to ensure you understand how Teams can benefit from having a leader reinforce and support agile practices while applying empiricism and is detailed in its questions and required answers. Many questions ask the test-taker to think about or interpret how they would handle scenarios and to apply their own experience in alignment with the principles of Evidence-Based Management.
To prepare we recommend you study from the Suggested Resources for the Professional Agile Leadership – Evidence Based Management certification assessment and take the Evidence-Based Management Open until you regularly answer all of the questions correctly.
While attending a class is not a prerequisite, attending a Professional Agile Leadership™ – Evidence-Based Management™ class is highly recommended.
All of our assessments are in English, many test takers successfully use the Google Translate Plugin to take the assessment.

Today, most products and services organizations focus their collective attention overwhelmingly on delivering things right – on schedule, on budget, with complete scope and quality. Relatively little collective attention is paid to whether they are delivering the right things that solve their real problems. Gabrielle will also introduce Outcome Delivery; an open-source framework adopted by RedHat innovation labs and being used by Product Owners to help focus teams on building the right products and delivering measurable value to customers.
The class attendees who fulfill the Scrum Alliance requirements will also receive the official CSPO certification from the Scrum Alliance.
